Paul Mathew Pinot Noir Ruxton Vineyard 2008 750ml
Russian River Valley Pinot Noir
Ruxton Vineyard
The Ruxton Vineyard is located at the western edge of the Green Valley Appellation overlooking the Santa Rosa Plain with the Mayacama Mountains as a back drop. This east facing vineyard gets plenty of sun with it's elevation on the ridge line, usually above the fog. The Gold Ridge soil and moderate slope keep yields down and quality up. Dijon Clones 667, 777, and 115 are planted in this two acre block. The wines from this vineyard have black fruits, baking spices, and mushroom earthiness, with rich texture.
"Fruit forward of dark cherry, plum with soft caramel, vanilla & a woodsy front, toasty mid & lots of cherry on the finish. This wine has structured tannins that are not awkward but show ability of longevity."
- Winemaker, Mat Gustafson
John's Top Pick Russian River Pinot Noir under $50
"For a very limited time at $35. The winery is making room for the 2008's and have made available the very last Ruxton 2007's to Sophie's Cellars. It just so happens to be one of my favorite Russian River Pinot Noirs. The 2007 Ruxton Pinot Noir is ready to enjoy now through 2011. This small two-acre vineyards has consistently produced flavors of red fruit, cherry, allspice and a very subtle white pepper finish and it is so versatile as to be paired with duck, poultry and seafood as well as a superb sipping pinot noir."
